Once upon a time I was using the following software packages, but I stopped using them either because they are no longer maintained, or for some other reason. It uses a so-called tree map for visualisation. Each file is shown as a rectangle with an area proportional to the file's size. Files in the same folder appear together, but their placement is otherwise arbitrary. Download SIDQLGenerator KDirStat and WinDirStat I need to mention, if only because they are also hosted on SourceForge. I haven't tried them though. I have given up on this approach and now create only one single large partition; the reasons I never really had any benefit from this partitioning scheme

GPGTools After several minutes, a window similar to this will appear, and you’ll probably wonder what this series of shaded blocks is supposed to mean. Float your arrow cursor over the blocks and you’ll begin to see the line of text below them change as you move. That’s GrandPerspective’s way of saying, “this is all the stuff that’s on your hard drive, sorted by size. The really big things are taking up a lot of space; the really small things (organized by folder) are taking less space individually but plenty of space collectively. That one line of text at the bottom is the name of the individual file the very tip of your arrow cursor is touching right now.” For reference, the giant blocks above are my Aperture photo collections and Final Cut Pro video content. If I deleted them (or better yet moved them to a reliable external hard drive), I could reclaim 350GB of storage space in minutes. Growl Installs a Preference Pane 2. Delete GrandPerspective 1.5.1 application using the Trash "One easy way to locate other large files that you can delete, move, or skip when migrating to your MacBook Air is to use a program like the free GrandPerspective." The long answer: Probably. It’s a nicely artisan-ish made app that does one thing very well. It is also very (very) reasonably priced.
